Schweinsteiger in & Ibrahimovic out!? Scholes picks his ideal Man Utd XI image

Paul Scholes has revealed the Manchester United team he would pick from the current squad and hinted he would bring Bastian Schweinsteiger back into the starting XI.

The Red Devils are on a poor run of form having won just two of their last seven games in all competitions and were beaten 2-1 by Fenerbahce last time out.

Jose Mourinho’s side is also struggling for goals having managed just one in the last four Premier League games, an Anthony Martial strike against Stoke at the start of October.

However, Scholes feels the club has enough quality to be challenging at the top and feels Mourinho should bring back Schweinsteiger.

"[Chris] Smalling and [Eric] Bailly obviously," Scholes told BT Sport when asked to pick his best United team. "Luke Shaw when he's fully fit - he'll get in the team. Antonio [Valencia] has been a revealation [at right back]."

He then selected Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick and Paul Pogba in midfielder, but insists Schweinsteiger should be given an opportunity in Mourinho's matchday squad.

"Schweinsteiger must have something to offer the team. He's got, what? 130 caps for Germany? [That's] great experience to have around."

Scholes also feels Mourinho should opt for a 4-3-3 formation and wants the Portuguese to go for pace up front.

“I'd have Martial and Rashford - the pace. You have to play those two and then it's [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic or [Wayne] Rooney."

"I think they could [challenge for the title]. But there's enough talent in that squad to at least be challenging for the top four and I think they eventually will."
