Samuel Kalu was sent off as Gent bowed 1-0 to Anderlecht in a Belgian Pro League Boxing Day encounter.

The hosts, bereft of their topscorer Henry Onyekuru, took the day courtesy Sofiane Hanni’s strike in the 77th minute.

And in injury time, Kalu was shown a red card - first time in his young professional career - after picking his second caution in the game, with the first coming in the 34th minute.

The 20-year-old will miss his side’s next league match against Lokeren on January 21. The youngster has scored four goals in 17 premier league appearances.

Compatriots Moses Simon [also shown a yellow card] and Anderson Esiti were on from start to finish of the encounter.

Gent are placed fourth in the Belgian top-flight log after garnering 32 points from 21 games.
