Mohamed Salah can replace Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the world's best player if he continues this season's form, says Ottmar Hitzfeld.
Salah has been in electrifying form for Liverpool since joining from Roma last summer. The Egypt international has been named PFA Player of the Year amid his 31 goals in 34 Premier League games as well as a further 10 strikes in 11 matches in the Champions League this term.
The 25-year-old's form has seen him linked with a move to Real Madrid already, and Hitzfeld is sure he is destined to reach the pinnacle of the game if he keeps it up, pointing out that he is pivotal to an exciting Liverpool.
"They stand for tempo, dribbling, unbelievable speed, for a counter-attacking game with a punch," he told T-Online .
"And then, of course, they have a world-class player in Salah. He could eventually replace Ronaldo and Messi, if he can continue the achievements of this season in the next few years."
Salah had a surprisingly ineffective game in Liverpool's 0-0 draw with Stoke City on the weekend, missing a big chance when through on goal as he dinked the ball over Jack Butland but wide of the post.
He will be hoping to return to top form against Roma on Wednesday, however, as the Reds look to build on their 5-2 aggregate lead over the Serie A side and reach the Champions League final.
