The New England Revolution strengthened their defense Wednesday with the signing of Slovenian center back Antonio Mlinar Delamea.
Delamea joins the club via a transfer from Slovenian side Olimpija Ljubljana. New England used targeted allocation money to sign the 25-year-old, who earned his first Slovenia cap in a November friendly against Poland.

"We are very pleased to add to our defense with an experienced center back like Toni," Revolution general manager Michael Burns said in a news release. "We're excited to have him here for the beginning of training camp and we look forward to getting him a full preseason of action on the field with his new teammates."
Delamea has made 134 appearances across all competitions in Slovenia, having played for Interblock Ljubljana from 2008 to 2011 before joining Olimpija Ljubljana. He had started 20 matches during the 2016-17 PrvaLiga campaign while serving as Olimpija's captain.
The 6-foot defender joins a Revolution side that ranked 15th out of 20 MLS clubs with 54 goals conceded in 2016. Delamea and London Woodberry now are the only natural center backs on New England's roster after the expiration of captain Jose Goncalves' contract earlier this offseason.
