The New York Red Bulls have re-signed defender Aurelien Collin for the 2017 MLS campaign, the club announced Wednesday.

Collin, 30, had been out of contract. The Frenchman joined New York in an April trade from Orlando City and made 23 appearances as the Red Bulls finished first in the Eastern Conference.

"Aurelien was an excellent trade last year and he played a pivotal role for us," Red Bulls sporting director Ali Curtis said in a news release. "Many teams were after him so we are all the more happy that we were able to re-sign him."

Collin came to MLS in 2011 after stints in France, Greece, England, Scotland and Portugal, spending four seasons with Sporting Kansas City before joining Orlando ahead of the 2015 season.

The center back appeared in three straight MLS All-Star games from 2012 to 2014 and claimed MVP honors as Sporting KC won the 2013 MLS Cup.
