With a Champions League final to look forward to and the La Liga title long since in hand, Real Madrid cap off their domestic slate with a trip to Villarreal on Sunday.

Los Blancos sit 14 points clear at the summit of the Spanish top flight, meaning a win here would secure their largest margin of victory atop the league table in club history, and equal the largest by any club since Barcelona won by 14 in 2017/18. A win plus dropped points by Barcelona to Rayo Vallecano would push the gap even greater.

Carlo Ancelotti may still decide it's better to rest his best players, keeping them safe from injury ahead of the Champions League final on June 1.

Villarreal, meanwhile, sit eighth in the table but are out of reach from the European places. They're finishing strong regardless, having won four of their last five and just two defeats in their last 16 games.

Real Madrid vs. Villarreal prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Draw (+290)
  • Score prediction: Real Madrid 2-2 Villarreal

This is a strong spot for an in-form Villarreal side, who are coming off an impressive road victory over Girona, proving they can compete with the best sides in the league.

Given that Real Madrid may rest players, or at least have a short leash with some of the stars, they will be buoyed by the idea that Los Blancos may be there for the taking.

Real Madrid vs. Villarreal best bet

  • Pick: Over 3.5 total goals
  • Odds: -110 (BetMGM)

Real Madrid have been exceptional defensively of late, but as they keep one eye on the Champions League final, there will be a lack of true motivation in this match, which can set things off into a bit of a spiral.

These two teams historically play high-scoring matches, with 4-1, 3-2, 3-2, and 2-1 results in the last four meetings. Add in that Villarreal are in solid form led by striker Alexander Sorloth, and there are goals in this game. The value isn't quite what we would hope for a bar this high, but they can clear it.

Real Madrid vs. Villarreal prop bet

  • Pick: Luka Modric to score or assist
  • Odds: +160 (FanDuel)

Luka Modric is no longer a regular first-choice option for Real Madrid now at 38 years old, but that makes the Croatian legend a wonderful option here in their meaningless domestic league season finale. Modric hasn't been an everyday player, but when he steps on the field he's been his brilliant self, delivering 30 key passes in his nine league starts since the beginning of 2024 and picking up an assist in each of the last two.

With Carlo Ancelotti likely to rotate his squad heavily, it's a great situation for Modric to find a key contribution before giving way to others in the Champions League final.
