Real Madrid have agreed a contract extension with Andriy Lunin until 2028 as per The Athletic.

Los Blancos have been working on a deal to keep the Ukraine international at the club beyond his current deal which expired at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Lunin played 31 games for Real Madrid last season as he stepped up from a back-up role to cover for Thibaut Courtois injury.

His form saw the former Zorya Luhansk stopper promoted over loan signing Kepa Arrizabalaga but he was controversially omitted for the UEFA Champions League final win over Borussia Dortmund.

After being removed from the starting XI, despite playing a key role in getting Carlo Ancelotti's team to the final, he looked set to push for a summer exit.

Ancelotti indicated his desire to keep him, but admitted his agreement with the player over a lack of game time in the Spanish capital.

Lunin's call to remain in Madrid solves a problem for Ancelotti as the campaign schedule steps up, and he can call on the 25-year-old to rotate in selected games with Courtois, as Real Madrid push for a La Liga and Champions League title defence in 2025.
