The 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off on Sunday as the big event fans have been waiting for has finally arrived.

With the tournament staged in Qatar, the first World Cup to be held in the Middle East, the host nation will get the tournament started, as is tradition.

Qatar will take on Group A opponents Ecuador, who arrive at the 2022 World Cup after finishing fourth in South American qualifying, the final automatic qualification position. They also survived a contest to their eligibility for the World Cup brought forth by Chile this summer, and will now take the field without any more uncertainties.

On the first day of the World Cup, this is the only match of the day, and The Sporting News brings you all the details you need to watch the game on TV in the USA.

Fans in the USA can watch Qatar vs. Ecuador on TV in English or Spanish. The match will be televised on FS1 (English) and Telemundo (Spanish)

How to watch the World Cup in the USA

The 2022 World Cup will be televised in the United States in English by Fox Sports and in Spanish by Telemundo with fuboTV streaming every World Cup channel and available on a free trial for new users.

Fox will spread the matches across its main Fox network channel as well as FS1. Every knockout round match and 20 group stage matches will air on Fox's over-the-air national network channel, while the rest will be broadcast on FS1. The Fox Sports site and app will stream every match for authenticated cable, satellite or telco subscribers.

Meanwhile, Telemundo will be the home of all Spanish-language World Cup broadcasts in the USA. The only exception will come in the final round of group stage matches, when games are played simultaneously. For that set of matches, one of the simultaneous games will be pushed to Universo

All Spanish-language Telemundo/Universo World Cup match broadcasts will be streamed on Peacock in addition to being available on the Telemundo Deportes site and app for cable, satellite, and telco subscribers.

What time do 2022 World Cup games start in the USA?

For the 2022 FIFA World Cup, all group stage matches will start in the USA in the following match windows: 5 a.m., 8 a.m., 11 a.m., or 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

Qatar is eight hours ahead of the USA's east coast, and 11 hours ahead of the west coast.

The Qatar vs. Ecuador match will kick off at 11 a.m. ET / 10:00 a.m. CT / 9:00 a.m. MT / 8:00 a.m. PT.

Opening day of the tournament will feature the standalone inaugural match involving the host nation (Qatar). Then the second day of the tournament will feature three games. Every group matchday after that will have four games scheduled all the way through the conclusion of the group stage on December 2.
