No such thing as a bad season for Mane, says Ings image

Danny Ings says that the quality of Sadio Mane has been emphasised by the fact he has been deemed to have had a poor season.

The 26-year-old has scored 17 goals for the Reds this term as they have pushed their way to third in the Premier League and into the Champions League semi-finals, where they will face Roma over two legs.

However, the exploits of Mohamed Salah have pushed the Senegal international star into the shade, though Ings, who has missed much of the season injured, has hailed the contribution of the ex-Southampton and Metz attacker.

“For anyone’s ‘bad’ season, that’s extremely good! There’s no such thing as a bad season for him, he has been absolutely brilliant,” he told the club’s official website.

“He is so sharp; when he faces anybody up in a one-v-one situation you fancy him every single time.

“His runs in behind, his intelligent movement coming short, inside and helping Robbo get down the outside – they’re the sort of things that go unnoticed sometimes.

“From the outside looking in, it’s about goals and assists. He gets all of that, all of our front three do. But it’s the movement and work-rate that really catches my eye.”

Ahead of Roma’s visit to Anfield on Tuesday, Liverpool go to West Brom in the Premier League on Saturday.
