Egypt bowed to a 3-1 loss to Russia in their second Group A fixture on Tuesday.
Ahmed Fathy's own goal, Denis Cheryshev and Artem Dzyuba efforts in the second half put Stanislav Cherchesov's side in control at the Krestovsky Stadium.
And Mohamed Salah reduced the deficit for the north Africans with his effort from the penalty spot but it was not enough to stage a comeback for the former African champions.
The Pharaohs will now have to wait on the result of the clash between Uruguay and Saudi Arabia to determine their fate at the World Cup.
However, football fans have taken to social media to react after the game.

Egypt going out the World Cup in embarrassing fashion. No Salah magic, at least Ronaldo / Messi have something to work with their squads, these Egyptians are dire.
