Atletcio Madrid will end their 2017-18 campaign with a hybrid friendly with Nigeria B tagged the GOtv MAX Cup.

The result means little mean to Los Rojiblancos, but that is different with the Super Eagles – made up of mostly Nigeria Professional Football League players, as they are keen to tango with some of the best players in Europe.

Diego Simeone is expected to field a robust team and Fernando Torres would be hoping to draw the curtain on a memorable Atleti career with a goal at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Emem Eduok and Kelechi Nwakali have a good chance to relaunch their Super Eagles career should they get the nod to feature against the Spaniards.

Femi Thomas and Ojo Olorunleke were in fine form during the training session and it will be a tough one picking the goalkeeper who will be saddled with the responsibility of halting Atletico Madrid from scoring.

NAC Breda’s Sadiq Umar was conspicuously missing from team’s training on Monday and he is a major doubt for the encounter.

Nigeria B are expected to field a strong XI to test their strength against the reigning Europa League kings.

Match Preview

Nigeria vs. Benin

Reigning Europa League kings Atletico Madrid would be hoping to end the 2017-18 season on a high by defeating the Super Eagles in Uyo.

It has been a busy week for Diego Simeone’s men as they played in two crucial games. First, they tackled Olympique Marseille in the final of the Europa League before facing Eibar in their last league game of the season – all which they played without defeat.

The Spaniards have lost just once in their last eight games and it will be near impossible task for the hurriedly assembled Super Eagles’ to match the high-flying visitors.

Atletico Madrid defeated a NPFL selected side 2-1 during a LaLiga tour in 2016 with Bashir Abdulrahman getting the lone strike.

For players like captain Musa Muhammed, Kelechi Nwakali, Chidiebere Nwakali, Emem Eduok and Ojo Olorunleke, this game is a chance for they to seal their place in the senior national team.
