Frank Lampard brought the curtain down on his glittering career on Thursday, with New York City FC proving to be his final club.

Tributes have poured in for the iconic midfielder, with his enviable CV ensuring that his name will be forever etched in football folklore.

Farewell to all-time great Lampard

He will be best remembered for his time at Chelsea, during which he won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, the Champions League and Europa League.

Lampard also earned 106 caps for England, before heading to America in 2015.

Twitter reacts to Lampard retiring

A slow start to his time in Major League Soccer saw questions asked of his value to the game in the United States, but a 12-goal return in 2016 allowed him to bow out on high.

Not everyone, though, has been quick to praise an outgoing hero of the modern era, with New York Red Bulls not about to hail the achievements of a man who was a direct rival in the Big Apple.

Lampard heads into retirement without too many happy memories of his time facing the Red Bulls.

Not only was he on the wrong end of the nutmeg shown above, he also saw City suffer 4-1 and 7-0 defeats to their neighbours in 2016.
