Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admits Diego Costa is incapable of playing two games in three days due to his current fitness issues after leaving the Spain international out of his starting lineup for the Blues' clash with Schalke.
"He has problems at this moment," Mourinho said. "When he plays one game he needs a week to recover to be in condition to play in the next game. We play now in midweek – he can’t do it."
Didier Drogba started the match in place of the prolific Brazil-born Spaniard and failed to find the net as Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's clinical second-half strike secured a surprise point for the visitors.
When asked if Drogba needs more playing time to regain his sharpness in front of goal, Mourinho replied: "Of course Didier needs more – he did his job. He had a positive game, he had good contribution.
"If he scores that goal a couple of inches the other way [in the second half] we are standing here talking about Didier scoring again in the Champions League.
"Didier has lots of experience. He is not crying now because of that miss. He is stable and confident and we are all confident."
