Motaung: Kaizer Chiefs won’t stand in Gordinho’s way if Aalborg want him image

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that they will not deny Lorenzo Gordinho the opportunity to move to Europe if Aalborg BK wants to sign him.

The 22-year-old began his week-long trial with the Danish side this week, and according to football manager Bobby Motaung, the club was more than happy to allow the player to try his luck with Aalborg.

“We are happy with the opportunity Gordinho got. Yes, we gave him permission to go there and we will wait to hear what Aalborg say,” Motaung told Isolezwe.

“We wouldn’t have allowed him to go for trials if we didn’t want him to try his luck in Europe,” he said.

“We are happy for him and we wish him the best of luck. We don’t doubt his talent, and it is for that reason he was one of the four players who went to train with Fulham,” Motaung concluded.

Meanwhile, Gordinho’s agent Mike Makaab dismissed suggestions that his client hasn’t signed a new contract extension with Chiefs because he’s holding out for a move to Europe.

He confirmed that talks between the two parties are still ongoing; adding that Chiefs will definitely benefit financially should Aalborg sign the young centre-back.

“That [Gordinho going to Aalborg] is not the reason he hasn’t renewed his contract. We are still in talks with Chiefs and if he impresses Aalborg, Chiefs will benefit [financially] because the player is still contracted to them,” he said.

Makaab reiterated that Amakhosi knew well in advance about Gordinho’s trip to Denmark, and therefore gave him their blessing to try his luck with Aalborg.

“Chiefs had every right to say no, because he is still their player, but they didn’t. Instead, they allowed him to go and try his luck,” said Makaab.

“Our relationship with Chiefs management is very good and again, they understand everything that’s going on because they are the first to know when things like this happen,” he continued.

He added: “Gordinho has a bright future ahead of him, and as ProSport International, we will make sure that we help him grow as a player.”

Makaab is confident Gordinho will extend his contract with Chiefs, adding that he will not leave them for another PSL team if he fails to secure a move to Europe.

“He is still happy at Chiefs and he won’t be joining another [local] team. He will only leave Chiefs for Europe,” Makaab concluded.
