Akram Moghrabi and Raynier Fernandes on target as Mohun Bagan beat Mohammedan in friendly image

Mohun Bagan beat Mohammedan Sporting 2-0 in a friendly match at the Salt Lake stadium in Kolkata as they continue their preparations for the final round of Super Cup. Akram Moghrabi and Raynier Fernandes were on target for the Mariners in the second half, after a closely contested first-half came to a goalless halt.

Coach Sankarlal Chakraborty fielded a full-strength starting eleven with Shilton Paul under the sticks. He was protected by a back four of Gurjinder Kumar, Eze Kingsley, Kingshuk Debnath and Arijit Bagui. Cameron Watson and Yuta Kinowaki held the keys in midfield, whereas Nikhil Kadam and Sk. Faiaz manned the wings. The duo of Akram Moghrabi and Aser Dipanda led from the front.

Subham Roy had a wonderful outing under the sticks for Mohammedan and if it was not for his heroics then the scoreline could have been worse. Moreover, Aser Dipanda missed a spot-kick which would have heaped more misery on the local rivals.

Fikru Teferra, who was heavily linked with Mohun Bagan in the January transfer window, came on as a substitute in the second half for the Black and Whites. The Ethiopian striker looked a bit shaky in front of goal and could not produce the goods for his team.

Bimal Magar to join Mohammedan Sporting

Mohun Bagan-discard Bimal Magar is set to don the colours of Md. Sporting next season in his second attempt to make a mark in Indian football. The teenager is considered as a Nepalese prodigy, having played in the youth teams of several prominent European outfits. But the Sony Norde replacement failed to impress Chakraborty during his short stint with Bagan and was subsequently released after the completion of I-League.

Mohun Bagan will leave for Bhubaneswar on March 30, to take on Churchill Brothers in Super Cup a day later at the Kalinga stadium.
