Mohamed Diame has reflected on Newcastle United’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace in Sunday’s English Premier League encounter.

The Senegal international opener but saw his effort cancelled out by Luka Milivojevic’s strike from the penalty spot.

And, although the former West Ham United player is not entirely satisfied with the outcome of the game, he is happy that Newcastle did not lose the game.

“It’s a point that we have to take because if we want to stay up we need points. It’s a good point but of course, we always want to win,” Diame told NUFCTV.

“Really it’s frustrating to be honest because this is not the first time this happens (where they take the lead and then concede) but as I said before, it’s a point because we could have lost this game in the second half. They had good chances to score and it is a good point.

“It is always good not to lose games but of course if you want to stay up you need points and three points is the best.

On his goal, he said: “It’s a corner I don’t know who was marking me but I was alone at the second post and just saw the ball came and I just hit it. It’s a good goal, an important one but unfortunately, we didn’t win.

“It is a good thing to score and it’s a good feeling and hopefully I can score more.”
