Following the opening of the Copa America to teams from outside South American territory, Mexico, in several editions as a guest nation, became one of the main teams to take centre stage at the CONMEBOL tournament.

El Tri know what it takes to challenge for international honours and, in each competition, they aspire to go as far as possible.

They have a solid history at the Copa America as past finalists, but they almost missed out on qualifying for the 2024 event in the United States altogether, eventually coming through a penalty shootout against Honduras after rescuing a 2-2 draw in the CONCACAF Nations League semifinal match.

Mexico will be in Group B at this year's Copa America, alongside Ecuador, Venezuela, and Jamaica. They will hope at least to reach the first knockout round.

What are Mexico's past results and all-time statistics at the Copa America? What does their record look like? Below is a breakdown of their history at the tournament.

The 2024 Copa America was the 11th CONMEBOL championship that Mexico has played in. El Tri returned to the competition after being absent in 2019 and 2021.

Although Mexico have not yet won the Copa America, they are one of the teams to have played in more than one edition (and more than one final) without tasting glory. They reached the final in 1993 and 2001 but lost 2-1 to Argentina and 1-0 to Colombia in those respective matches.

Their worst performances at the Copa America came in 2011 and 2015. In the first of these tournaments, held in Argentina, they finished bottom of their group with three defeats from three games played; in the second, in Chile, they also finished last in their group, with two draws and one loss. They nearly matched that in 2024, crashing out in the group stage with a third-place finish behind Venezuela and Ecuador.

Since their debut in the competition 1993, Mexico have only missed out on the Copa America twice: the 2019 and 2021 tournaments, both held in Brazil.
