Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino may have earned plaudits in recent seasons for fashioning a side consistently capable of challenging for the Premier League title, but it is clear where an improvement must be made if they are to take that extra step.

The Argentine has a woeful record against fellow top-six clubs when playing away from home, having won only one previous fixture in the 16 he has overseen in charge of the Lilywhites.

That lamentable run continued on Saturday, as they went down 1-0 to an Anthony Martial goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Lancashire venue has been a thoroughly unhappy hunting ground for the former Southampton boss since he arrived at the London club, suffering defeats in all four of his visits, with his side unable to celebrate even a single goal.

Indeed, now Spurs have lost four of their last five road trips to England’s elite sides.

Pochettino’s sole victory came against Manchester City on February 14, 2016, and even those three points were claimed in a dubious fashion as Harry Kane scored a hotly contentious penalty in a 2-1 success.

Meanwhile, he has also overseen six draws but he has lost a total of nine times.
