U.S. central defender Matt Miazga is on his way to the Dutch Eredivisie after being loaned to Vitesse Arnhem by English Premier League side Chelsea FC for the remainder of the season.

Miazga, 21, was a bit of a panic buy by Chelsea in January when it was playing poorly in the Premier League. Though he was enjoying a good spell with the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer, he was never really ready for the rigors of the EPL.

U.S. men's national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann opted to leave Miazga off his squad for two upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Though he was on that Chelsea's squad that traveled to Austria and the U.S. for the preseason, he has not seen enough game action since his winter move.

Miazga will now fight for a place on the Vitesse squad, which has a deep connection with Chelsea. If he performs well, he could still earn a spot on the 2018 U.S. World Cup squad.
