Tottenham came from a goal down to claim a dramatic victory that saw them win UEFA Champions League Group D, while Marseille were knocked out of European football for this season.
Spurs were subdued and second best to a pumped-up Marseille side in the first half, the visitors watched from the stands by manager Antonio Conte after he was sent off on matchday five.
Hugo Lloris made good saves to deny Alexis Sanchez and Jordan Veretout, but Marseille took the lead late in the first half through Chancel Mbemba's powerful header.
But Spurs looked a transformed side after the break and were level when defender Clement Lenglet headed in from a free-kick. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg hit the crossbar with 10 minutes left, and then with Marseille desperate for a winner, Hojbjerg broke away to clinch the game with an unstoppable shot.
Eintracht Frankfurt's win over Sporting Lisbon and this result saw Spurs top the group ahead of the German side, while Marseille finish fourth.

Spurs win for Conte
Conte cut a subdued figure having been forced to watch from the stands at the Stade Velodrome, but there was, eventually, plenty of reason for him to be upbeat following another gritty performance.
Tottenham were forced to do things the hard way, and indeed for long periods they looked well below their usual standards, with talisman Harry Kane taking fully 51 minutes to find his first proper sight of goal.
Having conceded just before half-time, the Tottenham of old might have crumbled. But Conte has made them more resilient these days, and they proved their credentials with a hard-fought second-half display.
Conte's side will now be one of the seeded clubs in Monday's Round of 16 draw, after their first win on French soil in this competition.
Son injury latest
Lenglet and Hojbjerg stole the headlines but in the coming days there will be equal focus on the status of Son-Heung Min, after he was forced off with a worrying looking injury.
The South Korea star was clearly dazed and confused after an aerial clash saw him take a blow to the head. He was, rightly, substituted in the first half but had to be supported off the pitch as he walked down the tunnel.
With the World Cup only 19 days away, attention will turn not just to updates on his fitness for his club, but also his availability for his country.
South Korea begin their World Cup campaign against Uruguay on November 24.

FULLTIME Marseille 1-2 Spurs
90 MINS +4: GOOOOAAAAAAAAL!!!! Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg seals it for Spurs!!! Hojbjerg went in on the keeper and drove an unstoppable shot in to seal the win - and Spurs win the group! Crazy!
90mins +2: Clock running-down expertise there as Lucas Moura and Bryan Hill swap places.
90 mins: Eintracht Frankfurt are through, who will join them?
89 mins: Nuno Tavares dummies Emerson Royal and lashes a fierce shot over the bar from an angle.
87 mins: What a miss! Sead Kolasinac nips in at the back post but from a few yards out his downward header bounces just wide - he had to hit the target from there!
86 mins: Spurs could do with some time on the ball to kill this off, but they cannot keep hold of it as Marseille give it one last shot at glory.
82 mins: And then Ivan Perisic and Harry Kane get some vital blocks in to frustrate the hosts! This has become an absolute cracker!
80 mins: Close! Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg curls a lovely shot from just inside the box, and it hits the crossbar! And seconds later, Chancel Mbemba times a tackle expertly in the area to deny Harry Kane a chance - it's all happening!
78 mins: Don't forget that Antonio Conte was banished from the bench for tonight, so this is impressive stuff especially after half-time.
75 mins: Spurs are looking comfortable, and are in control of their Champions League destiny.
68 mins: So much happening now - Kane had the ball in the net but was waved offside, and then the referee was threatening to show a yellow card to the Spurs bench. Spurs are second in the group as it stands.

59 mins: Spurs give it away and Amine Harit's fierce hit from long range just skims over the bar, although Lloris had it covered.
57 mins: Clement Lenglet is booked, but Marseille send the resulting free kick straight into Hugo Lloris' grateful clutches.
54 mins: Goal! Clement Lenglet rises to a free kick from the left and his header is pinpoint precise, right down by the base of the post and in! Excellent comeback!
52 mins: Spurs look like they have had the proverbial half-time rocket, they are much more purposeful
49 mins: Close! The ball flashes across from the right after a run from Rodrigo Bentancur and Harry Kane is denied by a faint touch from keeper Lopez! Spurs best chance so far, and they have to score to go through.
46 mins: We are under way again, and Emerson Royal is on for Ryan Sessegnon as Spurs try to drag this back.
Half time: Oh dear...
0 - Spurs failed to make a single touch in Marseille's penalty area in the first half; just the third occasion in the UEFA Champions League this season of a team not managing a touch in the opposition's box in the entire first half (also Rangers & Maccabi Haifa). Half time: Marseille 1-0 Spurs
45 mins +7 mins: Harry Kane shoots from range and the Marseille keeper plays safe to concede a corner, which Spurs make nothing of.
45 +5 mins: Seven minutes were added on due to the long injury stoppages earlier.
45 mins+1: GOAL! Marseille deservedly lead! Chancel Mbemba rises to a quickly-taken corner at the back post and he slams a powerful header past Hugo Lloris, squeezing it in just inside the post.
44 mins: A draw suits Spurs fine, but they are sailing close to the wind - the ball is hardly out of their own half at the moment. Marseille are relentless.
41 mins: Sporting Lisbon are ahead against Eintracht Frankfurt, so as it stands they are top of the group and Spurs are second. Samuel Gigo throws himself at a corner in front of Hugo Lloris but heads well wide.
37 mins: Spurs win their first corner but home keeper Pau López is fouled by Eric Dier and Marseille clear with a free kick.
33 mins: Save! Jordan Veretout latches onto a loose ball on the left of the area and unleashes a rasping shot that Hugo Lloris touches away to his left! Excellent stuff all round.
We're forced into an early change.

Get well soon, Sonny! pic.twitter.com/DjcapsYGye
31 mins: Lucas Moura has moved up alongside Harry Kane by the looks of it, neither has seen much of the ball so far so maybe the change might get Spurs going a bit.
29 mins: Yves Bissouma is on for the Korean forward, let's see how that changes the shape.
27 mins: Son-Heung Min is guided off down the tunnel, and there's no substitute as yet.
25 mins: Chancel Mbemba and Son-Heung Min clash in midair and the Spurs striker needs some prolonged treatment for a bang to the face. He looks a bit dazed.
21 mins: Close! Jonathan Clauss shoots across goal and Lloris opts to watch it roll past his far post. It is all Marseille at the moment.
18 mins: Boom! Fireworks go off around the ground, and on the pitch the hosts are in charge with Alexis Sanchez turning and forcing a corner with a snap-shot that Hugo Lloris has to fist away.
13 mins: Marseille are the same shape with Gigot as Bailly, and they are still the better side with Ben Davies making an important interception in his own area.
9 mins: Eric Bailly limps off sadly and Samuel Gigot replaces him.
8 mins: Marseille have started furiously, Spurs have yet to settle but they are holding firm. It looks like the hosts are making an injury replacement, which might disrupt them.
3rd min: Chance! Alexis Sanchez nips across Clement Lenglet and gets a glancing header that skims past Hugo Lloris and wide!
1st min: As well as the noise, Spurs have to deal with heat - it is 78 degrees in the ground tonight.
And we are under way! Fantastic atmosphere - and that is with one end closed due to UEFA restrictions!
10 mins from kickoff: The noise inside the Stade Velodrome is, predictably, incredible - it is going to be very hostile for Spurs tonight, a proper old-fashioned away in Europe experience. Not long to go now!
20 mins from kickoff: It's a 'Nessun Dorma' kind of night in Marseille - none shall sleep...

Marseille vs Tottenham prediction, betting odds
Tottenham have previously defeated Marseille in London through two goals from the now-absent Richarlison, and they are the favourites to win in France without being odds-on this time.
Marseille spurned a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Strasbourg on Saturday, ensuring they have not won for four games running. Prior to that, OM lost at Eintracht Frankfurt on Champions League Matchday 5 and were beaten at home by Lens and away at PSG, conceding the only goal of the game in the latter two matches.
Prediction: Marseille 1, Tottenham 2
