Manchester City host Real Madrid in a fascinating Champions League semifinal second leg at the Etihad Stadium on the back of a pulsating 1-1 first-leg clash in the Spanish capital.

Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti will go head-to-head for a place in the final on June 10, with City aiming for a first Champions League title, and Ancelotti fighting to retain the trophy.

The first leg was a tight contest throughout, with match referee Artur Dias Soares issuing two yellow cards to each team, and second leg referee Szymon Marciniak will be a key figure in this Manchester showdown.

Here are all the details on Marciniak's record ahead of his role in this massive Champions League clash.

Who is referee for Man City vs Real Madrid?

Szymon Marciniak leads a largely Polish team of officials in Manchester, joined by assistants Pawel Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz, with Romanian Istvan Kovacs confirmed as the fourth official.

Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties will be covered by Tomasz Kwiatkowski and Bartosz Frankowski, both from Poland.

Marciniak has risen through the UEFA ranks in recent seasons to become a regular pick for Champions League knockout matches. However, his career high came after being selected to officiate the 2022 World Cup final between Argentina and France.

The 42-year-old awarded a record three penalties, one converted by Lionel Messi and two by Kylian Mbappe, as the former led Argentina to a first world title since 1990.

Based on his Champions League numbers for 2022/23, he issues an average of 4.6 yellow cards per game, with two Porto players dismissed by him in European action this season, both for double bookings.

He sent off Mehdi Taremi in Porto's 2-1 group-stage loss to Atletico Madrid, and dismissed Pepe in their 0-0 home draw with Inter in the Round of 16.

Szymon Marciniak's record refereeing Man City and Real Madrid

As a combined total, Marciniak has officiated six games featuring either Man City or Real Madrid, but only one of those has involved the English side.

He was in charge for Los Blancos' remarkable quarterfinal second leg against Chelsea in 2022, as Karim Benzema's extra-time goal capped an incredible fightback.
