The 27 players for Malaysia U-23's first Asian Games training squad have been revealed by the Malaysian FA (FAM) on its website on Saturday.

Head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee is set to hold the training camp from July 1 to July 7 in Kelana Jaya, ahead of the 2018 Asian Games, which will be hosted by Indonesia in August.

However, out of the 23 players who helped the Young Tigers reach the quarter-final stage of the 2018 AFC U-23 Championship early this year, only 10 names have been called up.

According to the announcement by FAM, the rest of them will join the U-19 and senior national teams preparations. Their places will be filled by 17 new faces.

Interestingly, 30-year old Kedah captain Baddrol Bakhtiar too has been called up to the camp, as one of the candidates to fill the three-man overaged player quota of the tournament.

Kim Swee has also called up one name that may be unfamiliar in the country. 23-year old goalkeeper Wong Tse Yang, the son of former Malaysia custodian Wong Kam Fook has been given the chance to prove himself. The Chinese-born player last played for BC Rangers in the Hong Kong Premier League.

But according to the announcement, players from clubs that reach the FA Cup final, which is set to be played on July 7, will be exempted from joining the camp. Out of the four semi-finalists, only three sides have players in the call-up; Selangor, PKNS FC and Pahang.
