Liverpool may not be the champions of England, but a European championship is probably a good enough consolation. The Reds bested Tottenham 2-0 in the UEFA Champions League final at Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid to assert their dominance over European soccer for the sixth time in club history.
It took no time at all for Liverpool to take the lead as a questionable handball penalty on Moussa Sissoko in the first minute of play set up Mohammed Salah with a free kick from right in front of the goal. The ensuing 80 minutes featured much less action until Divock Origi sealed the game with a goal in the 87th minute.

Liverpool was able to find the back of the net twice in the match despite only landing just three shots on target for the whole match compared to eight shots on goal for Spurs. Mauricio Pochettino's side clearly won the stat sheet completing 378 of 488 passes (77 percent) while Jurgen Klopp's squad completing a mere 163 of 264 passes (62 percent).
Tottenham had captain Harry Kane in the lineup for the first time since April 9 when he suffered an ankle injury against Manchester City in the Champions League quarterfinal. Unfortunately, he wasn't particularly effective in his 90 minutes and struggled to create many chances. Conversely, Pochettino decided not to start Lucas Moura, who willed Tottenham to this match with his three goals against Ajax in the second leg of the semifinal. Moura did enter the game as a substitution in the 66th minute but was unable to channel any of his miraculous play from the previous round.
