Manchester United will play away in the FA Cup in front of fans for the first time since March 2020 when they visit Wigan Athletic on Monday.

United have enjoyed a remarkable run of being drawn at home in the competition but will now travel to the DW Stadium to face their League One opponents in the third round.

Erik ten Hag's side are already out of the UEFA Champions League and Carabao Cup, making the FA Cup their last realistic shot at silverware this season, given their 14-point deficit on Premier League leaders Liverpool.

The Red Devils reached the final last season but were beaten by Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

Wigan vs Man United lineups

Wigan's form has improved with four points from two games since Thelo Aasgaard returned from a two-month absence.

Fellow midfielder James Balagizi, 20, returned to Liverpool after spending the first half of the season on loan to the Latics.

Striker Josh Stones, who had found good form during a loan spell at Oldham Athletic, is out for up to three months with a foot ligament injury sustained in December.

Forward Stephen Humphrys was fit to start after suffering a hip issue during Wigan's home win over Carlisle on December 29.

Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Mason Mount have been long-term absentees for United and the game came a week or two too soon for them.

Harry Maguire, perhaps United's standout performer this season, suffered an injury setback against Bayern Munich. Despite his manager initially downplaying the severity of the problem, the English international is yet to make his comeback.

The good news for United is that goalkeeper Andre Onana delayed joining Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Ten Hag said Onana's involvement in the tournament had presented "an issue" during talks when he signed for the club in July, but described negotiations with the Cameroonian Football] Federation as "constructive". "I don't know yet," the Dutchman added of a resolution. "But he will be there for the game against Wigan."
