After an underwhelming finish to 2017, Leicester City recorded a 3-0 victory over Huddersfield Town in New Year Day’s English top-flight encounter, and Wilfried Ndidi is delighted with the positive start.

After enduring an uneventful opening 45 minutes, two sublime finishes in the space of seven second-half minutes courtesy Algeria internationals Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani were enough to put the Foxes firmly in the driving seat.

Marc Albrighton added gloss to the scoreline with a third in stoppage time to ensure Claude Puel’s men return to winning ways after ending December with a point in their last four matches - on the back of a promising start to the busy month.

And the Nigeria international - immense in thwarting David Wagner’s side attacking forays, and also seeing the crossbar deny him his first league goal this term - took to Twitter to express delight after they picked their eighth win of the season.

“What a way to start the new year. Great win today!" Ndidi tweeted.

"Happy new year everyone,” he added.

Leicester City are placed eighth in the English Premier League log after garnering 30 points from 22 games. And the defensive midfielder has been a constant fixture for the King Power Stadium outfit, playing in all 1951 minutes of the ties.
