Adam Lallana has given Liverpool and injury scare after he limped out of England's friendly with Spain inside the opening 25 minutes.

Theo Walcott replaced the midfielder, who had opened the scoring from the penalty spot, after appearing to pick up a knock following a late challenge from Thiago Alcantara.

It is a blow for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. Lallana is now in a race against time to be fit for the Premier League clash with his former club Southampton on Saturday.

The 28-year-old had sent Jamie Vardy through on goal against Spain before the Leicester City striker was fouled in the area, with Lallana stepping up confidently to dispatch the ensuing penalty past Pepe Reina.

Lallana's excellent form for Liverpool this season, in which his three goals and five assists to date have thrust the Reds to the top of the Premier League, made him an automatic call-up for England interim boss Gareth Southgate.

Klopp will be anxious to see the attacker back to fitness soon as his men prepare to tackle the congested holiday fixture calendar in a period that could be pivotal to their Premier League title challenge.
