The LA Galaxy have acquired the rights to U.S. international midfielder Jermaine Jones from the Colorado Rapids in exchange for a 2017 first round MLS SuperDraft pick and a conditional 2018 second round pick.
Jones, 35, heads to Southern California after one effective but injury-hit season in Colorado. The midfielder made 13 appearances for the Rapids in all competitions, scoring three goals and adding three assists, returning late in the season for the club's playoff run to the Western Conference final.
While the trade means the Galaxy have Jones' MLS rights, he still needs to agree to a contract with the Galaxy. Until that occurs, he remains free to sign with any non-MLS team.
“I would like to thank my teammates, coaches, supporters, and the Rapids organization for a great 2016 season,” Jones said in a Rapids news release. “I always said that I wanted to come to Colorado to build something with this group and that is what we did. We proved a lot of people wrong during the course of the year and playing a part in that was very special.”

Prior to his time with the Rapids, Jones spent a season and a half with the New England Revolution, where he made 34 appearances, scoring three goals and tallying six assists. He spent 14 years playing in Europe before his move to MLS, representing teams in Germany, England and Turkey.
Jones has been capped 67 times by the U.S. national team since making a change of association from Germany in 2010.
