Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah has lavished praise on Atletico Madrid ace Thomas Teye Partey following the midfielder's good showing this season.

The 24-year-old has been in top form for both club and country, having been a peripheral figure for both sides in years past.

Impressively, the former Almeria enforcer, who missed Ghana's last match against Egypt due to suspension, has netted five goals in his last four outings for the Black Stars.

"Every coach would love him in a team," Appiah told KweseESPN

"He is perfect in the defensive role and his confidence level is really high.

"He can [anchor] a team well and, of late, his scoring ability is fantastic. For me he is an all-round player.

"He says very little off the pitch so you have to allow him to play.

"On the pitch he controls a game well but is not one to bark instructions to anyone.

"He leads simply by what he does."

At club level, it has unarguably been Partey's best campaign with Atletico Madrid, having made 16 appearances in all competitions, involving 13 starts.

His four goals make him the club’s current joint-top scorer of the season and the only man to have netted in all three competitions – La Liga (two), Champions League (one) and Copa del Rey (one).
