Manchester City players enjoyed some well-earned celebrations after clinching their fifth Premier League title in six seasons last month.

In the aftermath of last weekend's FA Cup final win over Manchester United, which kept City on course for a famous treble heading into Saturday's Champions League final against Inter Milan in Istanbul, it was a different story for star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

"I have to say, after the cup game on Saturday, I just went home," he explained. "My wife had to do some stuff somewhere else, so I came home, had the three kids and just enjoyed a couple of days off in the sun and played games and played football, and that was it."

De Bruyne joked that there is "much more hassle" around this game than the COVID-impacted 2021 Champions League final against Chelsea, where City's talisman departed with a broken cheekbone and nose as his team lost 1-0.

This is largely down to arranging tickets and hotels for his family this time around, with his two eldest children coming along for a "special experience".

However, when the younger De Bruynes sit down to watch City nowadays, Dad is not necessarily the one they've all come to see. Eldest boy Mason is a huge Erling Haaland fan.

"It is not a problem. All three children have long hair," he told VTM.

"Erling is a superstar. I see that with the kids at [my son's] school, too. They all have hair like that. It's funny.

"My children have all become interested in football this year. They attend more games. They're also starting to play football themselves.

"My eldest in particular is starting to realise a little more what is going on. He wants to come to games more. He came to see Bayern [Munich in the Champions League quarterfinals]. He begins to experience and enjoy it more."

Family won't be the only part of the equation for De Bruyne this weekend, with long-time friend and Belgium teammate Romelu Lukaku seeking to ruin the party in Inter's attack.

"I've not spoken to him. I've not heard from him since we last played with Belgium together. It's been so incredibly busy," he added.

"He's one of my best friends in football. I've known him since 13, 14 years old. He's a very good friend.

"In the end, it's football for 90 minutes. We play against each other, we try to win against each other and, after that, we come back and we will see each other with the national team."
