Exclusive: Under Armour signs US Soccer's Jermaine Jones image

Under Armour is adding another football face to its brand. (No, we don't mean American football.)

U.S. soccer star Jermaine Jones, who starred for the 2014 World Cup team in Brazil, is the newest member of the Under Armour family, the company confirms to Sporting News.

“Under Armour is an aggressive and uncompromising brand. Naturally, they felt like a great fit as a partner,” Jones said in a statement. “The boots perform on the pitch and I look forward to bringing the passion of the brand to footballers everywhere.”

Under Armour vice president of Global Brand and Sports Marketing Pete Murray added, via a statement: “Jermaine, through his commitment to win and his performances over the summer, earned the respect of the global football community. His approach to training and his style of play aligns with the DNA of our brand. He’ll be a great ambassador for Under Armour as we expand our footprint in the global game of football.”

Jones joins Michael Dawson, Brad Friedel and Lauren Holiday athletes from the world of soccer endorsing the brand. Jones currently plays for the New England Revolution. He netted the winner for the Revs in their last match on Oct. 4.

In seven games this season, Jones has two goals and three assists for the Revolution.

Jones becomes the latest break from the mold for Under Armour, who have made more headlines in recent months with the likes of dancer Misty Copeland and supermodel Gisele Bundchen than your usual football, baseball or basketball players.
