The Houston Dynamo's decision to part ways with Wade Barrett as head coach isn't going over well with everyone at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Dynamo president Chris Canetti confirmed Wednesday that the club will not be retaining its former captain as coach after Barrett took over on an interim basis following the May exit of Owen Coyle. Houston followed a 3-7-2 start under Coyle with a 4-7-11 record during Barrett's tenure.

The club is poised to hire former Chivas USA coach Wilmer Cabrera as coach, according to FourFourTwo.

Houston striker Will Bruin took to Twitter on Thursday to slam the decision to not give Barrett the reins, writing: "Very, very disappointed Wade will not get the head coaching position. In my opinion, very foolish."

He was joined in that sentiment by defender Sheanon Williams, who wrote that Barrett did "so much hard work in a short amount of time with a team that was lost."

U.S. national team and Stoke City veteran Geoff Cameron, who played for Houston from 2008 to 2012, also got in on the criticism, writing that the Dynamo "seem to be chasing away everyone that helped make the club successful."

Alluding to Barrett's status as the club captain who lifted the MLS Cup in 2006 and 2007, Cameron said the Dynamo should "take notice" of the successful LA Galaxy front office led by Chris Klein, a former player for the team.

While Fox analyst Stuart Holden, a Dynamo midfielder from 2006 to 2009, offered a softer stance, he said he was surprised by the decision after Houston "showed fight and good organization" under Barrett.
