Serge Aurier put up a fine performance in Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
After a barren first half, the Red Devils stepped up their game in the last 45 minutes to secure maximum points thanks to Anthony Martial 81st minute strike.
The game at Old Trafford was Aurier’s third start for Tottenham in the English topflight this term – that he did in style combining well with Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli in the visitors’ midfield.
In the 22nd minute, the Ivorian got himself into a good position deep down the right flank and crossed quickly, but Chris Smalling was there to knock the ball behind for a corner.
10 minutes from full time, Aurier darted into the right-hand side of Manchester United’s penalty area and his attempt to tee up Alli proved abortive as he was flagged offside – and a promising attacking move came to an unsatisfactory end.
Overall, he made 42 passes, 8 recoveries with his passing accuracy rated at 69% according to Opta Stat.
Without any iota of sentiment, the former PSG man had a pretty decent outing, and putting up this kind of performance in subsequent matches will make him one of Mauricio Pochettino most prized assets.
