Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah believes Brazil are the favourites to win the 2018 Fifa World Cup holding in Russia.

The 57-year-old, who saw his Black Stars missing out of the tournament for the first time since 2006, insists that the four-time world champions, unlike the other 31 countries, have prepared adequately for the tournament which is seven months away.

Brazil have been handed Group E with Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia.

"For me, I tip Brazil to lift the trophy. If you monitor them closely, they have kept their team together and have been playing a lot of [strategic] friendly matches," Kwasi Appiah told Ghanasoccernet.com.

"They have prepared very well for the tournament. They have played a lot of friendly matches which are enough to aid them to correct all their mistakes so I tip them to win," he added.

Appiah, however, believes Senegal and Nigeria are African countries that he believes can go past the quarterfinals stages.

"Most of the African countries going to the World Cup have got very young squads. And I believe that they can surprise many at the tournament," Appiah said.

"Nigeria and Senegal are doing well with young players who want to achieve something. They only need the right mentality for the tournament and they can cause surprises by going past the quarterfinals," he added.
