Gambo: I'll fight for my place at Kano Pillars image

Mohammed Gambo insists he will fight to prove his worth at Kano Pillars this season.

The former Super Eagles striker has not played in the Nigeria Professional Football League since return from a long injury layoff.

Sai Masu Gida are unbeaten in their last six games and sit third in the league, just six points behind leaders Lobi Stars.

Gambo is not giving up, though, and is desperate to return to the starting XI.

“The team selection is the choice of the coach,” he told NPFL website.

“Remember I was injured for a long time since last season and that allowed other players to get opportunities which they have taken very well.

“I am still a Kano Pillars player so I have to do my best and fight to get the chance to play.”

He also claimed that his team are still title contenders and cannot afford to drop points at this crucial stage of the season.

“Yes, we can win the league,” he continued. “We have a good team, full of young and experienced players who are playing very well this season.

“We just have to win this to maintain our position among the top clubs so that we will have a chance at the title.

“It is important we win (against Rivers United) before the league goes on break for the World Cup.”
