Ruben Amorim will attempt to get Manchester United back on the road to recovery when they face Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.
After a run of relatively improved results in which they lost only once in seven games, the Red Devils have now suffered consecutive Premier League defeats and are languishing down in 15th place in the table.
Last week's narrow defeat to Tottenham came after Amorim's squad was hit by a spate of injuries and illnesses, robbing him of some of the few players to produce good form this season. So limited were their options that United's substitutes bench for that 1-0 loss included eight youngsters who had never made a senior appearance for the club before.
Everton, by contrast, are on a resurgent run under former United manager David Moyes. The Toffees have won four and draw one of their past five league games, which has helped to steer them away from the threat of relegation and towards the top half of the table.

Moyes has plenty of absences to deal with himself, although he has the welcome return from suspension of Abdoulaye Doucoure this weekend. He comes in for Carlos Alcaraz in the only change from last week's win at Crystal Palace.
Seamus Coleman is still missing, meaning Everton's injury picture looks largely unchanged. Youssef Chermiti and Nathan Patterson are not yet ready to return, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja are not expected back until March, and Dwight McNeil is not predicted to be available again until early April. Illiman Ndiaye is facing a few weeks out, and Orel Mangala will not play again until late in 2025.
Everton starting lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Pickford (GK) — O'Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko — Garner, Gueye — Lindstrom, Doucoure, Harrison — Beto
Injured: Mangala (knee), McNeil (knee), Calvert-Lewin (thigh), Broja (foot), Chermiti (thigh), Patterson (thigh), Ndiaye (knee), Coleman (lower leg)
Suspended: None

There is little let-up in Amorim's problems and the team for this weekend is very similar to the one that lost to Spurs last week.
One significant change is the return of Manuel Ugarte, who missed the defeat last week with a knock sustained in training. He comes in to midfield, with Alejandro Garnacho dropping to the bench as captain Bruno Fernandes starts further forward.
Leny Yoro and Christian Eriksen are in the squad after recovering from illness, although Amorim stressed that care must be taken with the latter due to his heart condition. The bench once more contains several youngsters, including two academy goalkeepers. Striker Chido Obi may hope for more game time after his late cameo at Spurs.
Toby Collyer is still out, while Mason Mount and Luke Shaw will likely be the first to return among the long-term absentees, but their comeback dates are unclear.
Man United starting lineup (3-4-2-1, right to left): Onana (GK) — Mazraoui, Maguire, De Ligt — Dalot, Ugarte, Casemiro, Dorgu — Zirkzee, Fernandes — Hojlund
Injured: Martinez (knee), Amad Diallo (ankle), Shaw (undisc.), Mainoo (muscle), Evans (muscle), Mount (thigh), Bayindir (undisc.), Collyer (knock), Heaton (knock)
Suspended: None
