For the third straight season, Everton fans have been designated as the "most pessimistic" supporter base heading into the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
The Toffees have spent the last two years flirting with relegation, and have struggled with financial difficulties as well.
Such a recent downturn for a well-established Premier League club has the fanbase reeling, and Sky Sports has released a list of the most pessimistic supporters with Everton on top.
Sky asked around 1,400 Premier League supporters to rate their confidence ahead of the coming season from 1 through 10, with Everton fans reporting an average confidence rating of 4.3. 50 percent of Toffees fans think the squad needs significant changes or a complete overhaul, although over 80 percent believe Sean Dyche is the right man for the managerial job.
The top five rounded out with newly promoted Leicester City in second and Southampton in third, while Nottingham Forest supporters sat fourth and Fulham fans emerged fifth with a 5.4 rating.
It marks the third straight season in which Everton fans entered the campaign as the most worried group. They topped the likes of Southampton, Fulham, and Manchester United ahead of the 2022/23 season, and again led the way last season above Tottenham and Wolves supporters.
This summer, Everton have done a good bit of transfer business, bringing in Jake O'Brien and Iliman Ndiaye from French clubs Lyon and Marseille respectively. They offset that cost by shipping Amadou Onana off to Aston Villa for big money, while Ben Godfrey also departed for Atalanta. Sky Sports report that Everton are unlikely to do any more transfer business this summer unless players depart to raise the funds required.
