England have been tipped to win a first-ever FIFA Women's World Cup in 2023 as Sarina Wiegman's side head Down Under this month.

The Lionesses finally secured a first major title last summer as Wiegman guided them to a Euro 2022 title amid iconic scenes at Wembley Stadium.

That has increased optimism that England can transfer their European success onto the global stage, up against rivals including the USA, Germany and co-hosts Australia.

However, injuries to key players have disrupted Wiegman's World Cup plans, with her squad forced into numerous reshuffles, as she plans for a potential run to the final.

The USNWT are narrow favorites to win the tournament, as two-time defending champions and the world's top-ranked nation, but England are a narrow second.

The oddsmakers have England, Spain, and Germany as the three countries most likely to push the USNWT for the title, with Australia ranked as outsiders

England's potential path to 2023 World Cup final

England have been drawn in Group D alongside Haiti, Denmark and China are they are strongly backed to finish top of the group.

If England finish top of Group D they will be paired against the runners up of Group B, with Australia and Canada tipped to progress, ahead of Nigeria and the Republic of Ireland.

If they finish as runners up in Group D, they will face the winners of Group B on the same half of the knockout draw.

France and Germany are likely to be on the horizon in the quarterfinal and semifinals with a potential final date up against the USNWT.
