Barcelona fans will have to wait for at least another three days to see Dani Olmo make his debut.
The midfielder was not in the matchday squad for Saturday's La Liga match against Athletic Club at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.
It had been hoped that Olmo would be registered to play in Spain's top flight in time for the fixture, particularly given that Ilkay Gundogan left the club earlier this week and returned to Manchester City. He appeared as a substitute as the Premier League champions beat Ipswich Town at home.
Barca boss Hansi Flick included Olmo in the travelling party for the game, but the Euro 2024 winner was named neither in the starting lineup nor on the bench for the match.

Dani Olmo still not able to play for Barcelona
Despite Gundogan's departure and the extra breathing room that gives Barca in terms of their wage bill, Olmo could still not be registered in time for the game against Athletic Club. Essentially, Barca need to do more to cut costs, otherwise they risk breaching their salary cap if Olmo is officially added to the player list.
It is expected that sporting director Deco will solve that particular problem in the coming days. Barca are selling 20-year-old defender Mikayil Faye to Rennes and are expected to secure exits for Clement Lenglet and Vitor Roque before the transfer window closes.
If any of that business can be conducted in the next 72 hours, Olmo may be able to make his debut at last in the game against Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday.
