The debate for world's best soccer player is largely undecided between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, but Ronaldo is three years older and is already garnering interest from MLS, according to SI.com.

Some of the world's best players have gone to MLS once their play regressed in their respective domestic leagues. Ronaldo, 30, is still a player in his prime, but is inching closer to the age players usually fall off.

English defenseman David Beckham seemingly started MLS trend when he joined the Los Angeles Galaxy at a relatively young 32. High-profile players such as Thierry Henry, David Villa and Kaka, are currently in the league, and Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard will join this summer.

Ronaldo will be 33 when his contract ends in 2018, and has expressed his desire to play in MLS if a new deal can't be worked out with Real Madrid.

The Portugese international currently sits second behind Messi in all-time goals scored in the Champions League, and recently set the record for goals scored in European club competitions with this strike against Schalke.

As one of the most prolific scorers in the history of soccer, Ronaldo will create waves of media attention no matter where he goes when his contract expires. If it's in MLS, Miami, Los Angeles or New York may get a new star.
