Cristiano Ronaldo is Atletico Madrid's Champions League nightmare: A rundown of all his goals image

Manchester United face Atletico Madrid away in the Champions League on Wednesday in a first-leg match that will see Cristiano Ronaldo come up against a team that he has tormented plenty of times in the past.

Ronaldo, who previously played for Atletico's rivals Real, boasts a stellar record against them, including four hat tricks. In total Ronaldo has scored 25 goals in 35 appearances against Atletico, while also dishing nine assists.

The majority of Ronaldo's goals against Atletico came while he played for Real, but he also scored against them during his time at Juventus.

It's worth noting that every time that Ronaldo has faced Atletico Madrid in the knockout phase of the Champions League, his team has always prevailed.

Ronaldo vs. Atletico as a Real Madrid player

Ronaldo's first goals against Atletico Madrid came in his second season at Real Madrid (2010-11), scoring in both legs of the Copa del Rey quarterfinal series as Real progressed.

His first goals against them in La Liga play came the following season (2011-12), doing so in style: He scored twice at home and hit a hat-trick away.

Ronaldo faced off against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey final in 2012-13, but his goal couldn't prevent his rivals from winning the trophy with a 2-1 victory after the game went to extra time.

He got his revenge against the Colchoneros in 2013-14, contributing a goal in a memorable 4-1 victory in the UEFA Champions League final. Real Madrid also ousted Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey semifinals on their way to winning that trophy, too.

It was an epic 2014-15 season for the Madrid derby as they met across four competitive fronts. Real Madrid advanced in the Champions League quarterfinals, but Atletico got the better of Ronaldo & Co. in the Copa del Rey Round of 16 and the Supercopa final.

Ronaldo couldn't score against the team in 2015-16, but he did convert the decisive penalty in the penalty-kick shootout of that season's Champions League final.

He scored six goals in a single season against Atletico in 2016-17 with two hat tricks: one in the away La Liga fixture and the other in the first leg of the Champions League semifinals, setting the pace for another Real Madrid conquest in the competition.

Ronaldo vs. Atletico as a Juventus player

Although he was no longer facing Atletico domestically in Spain, Ronaldo still returned to haunt them in the Champions League with Juventus.

Ronaldo's Italian side drew Atletico in the Round of 16 and he scored a hat-trick in the second leg at home as the Italian side managed to progress 3-2 on aggregate despite having lost 2-0 in the first leg.

The Portuguese star also faced Atletico in the group stages of the Champions League during the 2019-20 campaign. However, he didn't score in either fixture. Two seasons later, he will hope to remedy that failing with Manchester United.
