Defenders

Ventura Alvarado (two stars):  Takes his share of the blame for the opener after failing to mark anyone, even though he was in the vicinity to help John Brooks with Mattocks.

Fabian Johnson (3 1/2 stars):  Was a force on the overlap at left back, sparking a U.S. attack that at times grew stagnant.

John Brooks (1 1/2 stars): His lackadaisical marking led to Mattocks' opener. Continues to showcase his physical gifts while having a penchant for mental errors.

Brad Evans (2 1/2 stars): Helped direct traffic from his right back post but had some trouble handling his individual matchups.

Midfielders

Michael Bradley (3 1/2 stars):  Wasn't at his best in the first half but picked up big time after the break, scoring off a rebound to get the US. back in it. His play gave the Americans a needed sense of urgency.

Kyle Beckerman (two stars): Struggled to keep up with Jamaica's pace in the first half, earning a yellow card for a late challenge in a dangerous spot. Was taken off for Mix Diskerud.

Alejandro Bedoya (three stars):  Was the best U.S. player in the first half, providing energy and skill from his flank role. Also was solid defensively.

Gyasi Zardes (1 1/2 stars):  Made some poor choices in the final third and struggled to track back. Can be a liability when playing in midfield.

Forwards

Aron Johannsson (2 1/2 stars):  It was a mixed bag from the striker, who created Bradley's goal with the initial shot and put himself in good spots — but also spurned a couple chances.

Clint Dempsey (three stars):  Wasn't overly involved early, then looked more like himself after halftime. Alertly pounced on the rebound which led to Bradley's goal.

Substitutes

DeAndre Yedlin (two stars):  Came on for Bedoya late and saw yellow for taking down Jobi McAnuff.

Mix Diskerud (two stars):  Replaced Beckerman with 23 minutes remaining. Didn't get involved, though.

Alan Gordon (three stars):  Picked up his second cap, replacing Johannsson. Was a useful outlet as the U.S. grew desperate.
