Ghana striker Richmond Boakye-Yiadom has spoken about the experience of donning the national shirt, suggesting he could be the long-term successor to veteran centre-forward Asamoah Gyan.

Owing to his stellar form for Serbian outfit Red Star Belgrade this season, Boakye has been in the news as reports have linked him to English giants Chelsea.

Ghana all-time leading scorer Gyan, 32, is in the twilight of an international career that began in 2003, and has announced plans to quit the Black Stars after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

"There are a lot of strikers in Ghana but if God says it is my time [to replace Gyan], no one can stop it," Boakye told KweseESPN.

"When the time comes, we will see.

"I always say I don't have pressure when I'm playing football, it is like in Ghana, but I don't shake, I don't panic.

"Players get bad days and players have good days.

"When I get a bad day, I can't let what others think affect my reaction."

After some time in the wilderness, Boakye earned a Ghana recall for the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Congo in September.

It was a memorable return as the 24-year-old netted a double in the 5-1 away triumph over the Red Devils.

At club level this season, Boakye has raked in 14 goals in 13 matches in the Serbian topflight so far, having also netted six times in 12 appearances in the Europa League.
