The United States Women's National Team's Women's World Cup begins Friday from Auckland, New Zealand with its first ever match against Vietnam.

The USWNT group consists of Vietnam, the Netherlands and Portugal. Team USA is the overwhelming favorite to win the group and is among the favorites to win the World Cup overall, but it's a long road through New Zealand to win gold.

Team USA has won the last two Women's World Cups, defeating Japan in the 2015 final and the Netherlands in 2019. It is vying for its fifth World Cup victory overall, having also won in 1991 and 1999.

Vietnam is making its World Cup debut after winning the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup to clinch a berth. Despite the overwhelming odds, Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha and company are hoping to make an immediate impact.

New Zealand is not going to be especially friendly for United States viewers, but group play for the United States will begin at 9 p.m. ET.
