Carlo Ancelotti has offered a key update on Ferland Mendy's future at Real Madrid with a contract extension agreed with the France international.
Mendy has showed superb consistency over the last 12 months, to remove Ancleotti's concerns over his defensive game, and nail down the Los Blancos left-back spot as his own.
His form and elevated status in Ancelotti's plans persuaded the club to start renewal talks despite their rumoured move for Alphonso Davies in 2025.
Bringing in Davies would provide competition for Mendy, with Fran Garcia potentially moving on, and the Canada star can also play further forward if needed.

Mendy's current deal expires at the end of the season, and despite the lack of a formal club announcement, Ancelotti confirmed a fresh agreement until 2027.
"We are delighted with him, he's renewed his contract and is doing very well. His defensive level is very high, and he can play the ball, he does not have any difficulty, but I don't ask the same of him as a winger", as per quotes from Marca.
Real Madrid face a quick turnaround as part of a busy schedule after securing a 4-1 comeback win at home to La Liga rivals Espanyol last weekend.
They head to Alaves on September 24, and Mendy could be one of the potential rotations, as Ancelotti looks to keep his squad fresh for a derby showdown with Atletico Madrid five days later.
