The United States had to score a special helping of goals against St. Kitts & Nevis to put themselves in a good position to win their group in the 2023 Gold Cup, and that's just what they did.

A hat-trick from Jesus Ferreira led the way in the team's 6-0 romp in St. Louis.

How does that heavy scoreline compare to the most dominant victories in U.S. national team history? In fact, it has been achieved on many occasions; it's the fourth time in just the last three years that the Americans have won by six goals or more.

The Sporting News has compiled the biggest wins in USMNT history based on margin of victory.

Largest margin of victory in USMNT history

The largest margin of victory for the U.S. men's national team in history is eight in an 8-0 drubbing of Barbados in the earlier stages of World Cup qualification in 2008.

Brian Ching picked up a hat-trick, Clint Dempsey added two goals, and Michael Bradley, Landon Donovan and Eddie Johnson all found the back of the net as well.

The score was 3-0 at halftime after Dempsey, Bradley and Ching each netted once. Donovan and Dempsey scored four minutes apart bracketing the hour mark, and then Johnson scored eight minutes from full-time. That set up Ching for the game's final two goals, both in stoppage time, to give him a hat-trick.

Aside from that performance against Barbados, the U.S. has won by seven goals five times, including twice in consecutive friendlies in November and December 1993.

Including the victory over St. Kitts & Nevis in Gold Cup play, the USMNT has won by a margin of six goals nine times.
