Barcelona pulled out a thrilling performance in the final 10 minutes of their Joan Gamper Trophy final match against Tottenham to win 4-2.

Late goals from Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati and Ez Abde put gloss on an otherwise underwhelming Barca display, with Spurs left shellshocked.

Oliver Skipp's brace, after Robert Lewandowski's early goal, had put Ange Postecoglou's side 2-1 up and they were good value for that lead — until the late onslaught.

But it was Barcelona who took the early lead, carving open Spurs inside three minutes. Raphinha stormed down the Barcelona right and crossed delicately for Lewandowski to power home with a left-footed half volley.

Postecolgou's side soon responded when Skipp fired home following Giovani Lo Celso's shot, which hit the woodwork.

That move had started with some dogged play from Ivan Perisic down the Spurs left. And the Croatian was also involved in Skipp's second, as the English midfielder nodded home an inch-perfect Perisic cross to make it 2-1.

Spurs looked in control. But it was 16-year-old substitute Lamine Yamal who turned the game after coming on in the final 10 minutes; first picking out the onrushing Ferran Torres to turn home from close-range to make it 2-2, and then dazzling with a phenomenal turn before feeding Fati, who fired the winner beyond goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario in the Spurs goal.

Fermin Lopez then cut apart Spurs once more to give Abde the chance to wrap up the 4-2 victory in the final preseason match for these two sides.

Lamine Yamal leads Barcelona youngsters

A player who only entered the fray as an 80th minute substitute grabbing two assists is pretty remarkable in itself. But for a 16-year-old, this was outrageous stuff. Barely a minute had passed after Lamine Yamal's introduction and he'd already notched an assist for Ferran Torres, turning the momentum of the game in that single moment. He then repeated the trick after a wonderful turn, feeding Ansu Fati to make it 3-2.

He wasn't alone in making a huge impact from the bench after Xavi put his faith in youth towards the end of this match. Fermin Lopez (20) and EZ Abde (21) combined for the fourth and final goal, capping a brilliant night for Barcelona's next generation.

Spurs promise falls away for Postecoglou

This game had so much for Ange Postecoglou to feel satisfied about, before the complete defensive collapse in the final 10 minutes. Oliver Skipp made a very strong case to start the Premier League season in midfield, taking both his goals with aplomb, while Ivan Perisic rolled back the years with a stunning display on the left flank.

It was a Jekyll and Hyde performance, but it must be remembered that many of Spurs' first choice stars sat this game out. In any case, Postecoglou will know those old Tottenham wounds might take a while to heal — that's what the new manager might have learned from this final preseason outing.

Joan Gamper Trophy winners

It doesn't mean much — no preseason trophy ever does — but Barcelona were confirmed as the winners of the Joan Gamper Trophy yet again. They host the matchup every summer and this is their 46th triumph, their 11th on the bounce.

Spurs will be much more keen to win a trophy that truly counts, after years of near-misses, with fans hopeful that Postecoglou is the man to do it. As for Xavi, he continues to pick up the gongs as Barcelona coach.

Barcelona vs Tottenham score updates, highlights, and commentary

Final: Barcelona 4-2 Tottenham

How it got there, who quite knows? Spurs were 2-1 up for a long time in the second half and looked to have control of the game. The Barcelona introduced a host of talented youngsters who turned the game late on. Two assists for 16-year-old Lamine Yamal, remember the name!

93 mins: GOAL! Four minutes of added time and it's enough time for Barcelona to bag yet another. Spurs have completely fallen away at the death here, as Ez Abde turns in from Lopez's cross to put gloss on the scoreline for Barcelona.

90 mins: GOAL! Spence is dispossessed on the edge of the Barca box and you sense that was Tottenham's final attack done and dusted – and indeed it is. Yamal continues to dazzle on the right and feeds Fati to score. Clinical. 3-2.

88 mins: Another good save from Vicario! Alonso whips a goal-bound free-kick from the right and the keeper tips over. Can Spurs hold on to a draw here? Bissouma is being replaced by Sarr in midfield

86 mins: It's really Barcelona who are pushing now, looking the far more likely to nab the next goal. Yamal is a bundle of cricks. He's only 16! Madness.

83 mins: Lamine Yamal, who had only a minute before been introduced as a sub by Xavi – he replaced Eric Garcia – created that goal for Torres. He looks a real talent, as Barca now push for another goal. Vicario makes a good save.

81 mins: GOAL! Torres levels up for Barcelona. A sharp counter-attack catches Spurs cold and it's a simple close-range finish for the former Manchester City forward.

80 mins: The free-kick is wasted, with Lo Celso going for pinpoint accuracy and only finding the arms of Pena.

78 mins: In truth, Spurs have looked fairly comfortable defending this lead in the second half, while retaining a threat going forward. Their Aussie boss will be pleased if it stays this way. Bissouma wins a free-kick right on the edge of the Barca box.

76 mins: Young forward Dane Scarlett is the next man introduced into the action by Postecoglou. A weary looking Richarlison is replaced.

74 mins: Sanchez has been in the thick of the action in the second half. After a couple of earlier blocks, he nods behind this time for a corner. Spurs are dropping deeper, perhaps dangerously so.

72 mins: Lo Celso wins a useful free-kick to alleviate the pressure, as Spurs make their first changes of the night. Perisic and Skipp are both substituted, with young duo Alfie Devine and Djed Spence replacing them.

70 mins: Barca look a bit fresher now, since the changes. They're pressing Spurs a bit higher than before.

67 mins: Vicario is called into action as he tips wide from a header. That might have come off Richarlison last. Spurs doing their first prolonged spell of defending since the opening 10 minutes of the game.

65 mins: Some of the Barca subs almost make an instant impact, with Gundogan trying to feed Abde. All he can do is win a corner. The former Man City man is taking them now.

61 mins: Changes for Barcelona on the cards. Marcos Alonso, Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati, Ilkay Gundogan, Inaki Pena and Ez Abde are all coming on.

Lewandoski, Gavi, Pedri, Ter Stegen, Balde and Raphinha all go off.

60 mins: Big chances at both ends.

Pedri goes close to levelling up! Worked nicely from the right inside and the young Spaniard is slightly off-balance and therefore rifles it over the bar. Perisic then breaks away and takes it to the byline but his cross evades everyone. The Croat then repeats the trick and Porro gets on the end of this cut-back – saved by Ter Stegen!

57 mins: Richarlison nods wide from the resulting corner. Not an easy chance, that. Time for some substitutions, maybe? The pace has drained from this game a little.

55 mins: Lewandowski lurks at the back post, but Vicaro catches well under a bit of pressure. At the other end, Dier's free-kick is deflected out for a Tottenham corner. They've had a few of those in this game, eight now.

52 mins: Sanchez involved again, staying alert to take the ball off Gavi who was briefly through on the Tottenham goal.

50 mins: A stray arm from Sanchez catches Raphinha in the face and Barcelona have a free-kick just outside the Spurs' box, just on the far side though, so it's a crossing chance rather than a shooting one. Raphinha's ball is well cut out by Reguilon.

47 mins: No substitutions from Xavi for the second half, which might be a message to those players who laboured in the opening 45 minutes. Do better, he says. Spurs have also stayed unchanged, for now.

46th min.: Back underway!

Halftime: Barcelona 1-2 Tottenham

HALF TIME: After three minutes of first-half added time, in which Barca push for a goal without a clearcut shot to speak of, the referee signals for the interval.

Not many expected this scoreline, especially with Barcelona – who are fielding a strong side – going ahead inside three minutes. But it's been the Oliver Skipp show ever since.

45 mins: A fantastic chance to make it 3-1 goes begging as Solomon gets played through but drills it too close to Ter Stegen. That's a waste.

43 mins: Tottenham won't want half-time at this rate, with the momentum they're building up. Good signs ahead of Postecoglou's first proper match in charge against Brentford in the league this weekend.

41 mins: The crosses are raining into the Barca box now, either through set-pieces or open play. Bissouma is snuffed out following a dart down the left. Perisic's corner just about evades Ter Stegen's back post.

38 mins: Xavi and Barcelona have some thinking to do right now.

36 mins: GOAL! Oliver Skipp has two, incredible stuff! It's just rewards for Tottenham who have disrupted Barcelona's rhythm in the past 10 minutes or so. Skipp met Perisic's cross with an excellent header. 2-1 Spurs!

33 mins: Sergi Roberto is replacing Araujo at right-back. Looks like he picked up a knock and is removed by Xavi as a precaution. Solomon shoots wide after a Spurs set-piece bounces around in the box. He wants a handball but won't get one.

31 mins: Araujo sped down the Barca right there and Sanchez did well to keep pace with him and slide in with a nicely-timed tackle. There's been a few meaty challenges already in this game.

29 mins: We sure haven't been short of entertainment and action in this game so far. Both teams are going for it. Perisic has been a big threat down the Spurs left in the last few minutes. Ter Stegen sharply comes out to catch the Croatian's cross.

27 mins: You suspect Postecoglou will be delighted with that goal. It was quick back-to-front football and Barcelona were pulled apart. Vicaro then pulls off a great jumping stop to keep it at 1-1... he was in danger of being lobbed, caught way off his line.

24 mins: GOAL! A bit ragged from the Tottenham back four under pressure on the ball. It's not neaty and tidy back there. At the end other, they've scored! Virtually out of nothing, but swept brilliantly into the bottom corner by Skipp on the rebound after a flowing move down the left, with Lo Celso initially hitting the post.

22 mins: Spurs have been a bit better in the past few minutes, winning a succession of corners, which are whipped under the crossbar, testing Ter Stegen's glovework. He's up to the task.

19 mins: Vicaro does well to parry a blockbuster effort from Lewandowski. He was given way too much space on the edge of the box, there. Doesn't need a second invitation to shoot.

16 mins: Gavi is full of apologies after a poor challenge on Solomon. That would've been a booking in a competitive match. Sanchez then gets his head on a Spurs corner but it's easy for Ter Stegen to gather. Then Spurs win it back but Richarlison cannot direct his effort on goal, tackled by Garcia.

13 mins: It very much seems like a pattern has been established already in this match. And it comprises Barcelona having the ball for long periods and Spurs relying on the counter. The Blaugrana are working it around the white shirts nicely.

10 mins: A rare Spurs foray forward through Perisic quickly fizzles out. This hasn't been the ideal start for the London club, in their final preseason match.

7 mins: Oliver Skipp takes a heavy challenge there from Garcia and both players stay down for a while. Naughty one from the Barca centre-back, really.

5 mins: Postecoglou is angry as Spurs are opened up again, this time Raphinha getting on the end of Lewandowski's deflected ball, but the former Leeds man can only fire over the bar. It should be two.

3 mins: GOAL! Barcelona lead through their first attack. Great play from Raphinha down the right flank and an inch-perfect cross that picks out Lewandowski at the back post. He blasts it beyond Vicario and it's all smiles for the Barca players already. 1-0.

2 mins: Spurs, all in white this evening, dominate the early possession. Their high-pres almost carves out a chance for Richarlison but he's snuffed out in the end.

1 min: Let's go then. A little bit delayed, after the usual prematch shenanigans but we're finally under way.

Kickoff

5 mins before KO: Here come the players and we're all set for kickoff in these two clubs' final preseason games of summer 2023.

15 mins before KO: There's no Ousmane Dembele for Barca tonight, as the Catalan club try and resolve his future. Their vice-president Rafa Yuste has been quoted as saying: “We’re on the verge of resolving Dembélé deal with Paris Saint-Germain as all parties want to seal it as soon as possible. Dembele is not with us tonight as we hope to settle the matter soon. We are on it."

30 mins before KO: Counting down to kickoff now at the Montjuic Stadium, AKA the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, Barca's temporary home for this season.

50 mins before KO: Well, Barca have fielded a very strong side indeed. It includes Robert Lewandowski up front, Frenkie de Jong pulling the strings in midfield, as well as the likes of Pedri, Gavi and Raphinha providing some flair between the lines. Spurs might have their work cut out.

1 hr before KO: The Spurs lineup is confirmed. Richarlison starts up front, flanked by new boy Manor Solomon and older boy Ivan Perisic. Eric Dier skippers the side, while the likes of Lo Celso, Reguilon and Bissouma all get chances to impress. Barca team to follow.

1 hr 10 mins before KO: Official team news has not yet landed with us, but the word is that both Harry Kane and James Maddison have been left at home by Spurs today. Kane, whose future continues to be subject to lots of speculation, played 80 minutes against Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday. It's understood that the quick turnaround between games, rather than anything transfer-related, is the reason for his absence. It looks likely now that Kane will remain with Spurs this coming season, in any case.

1 hr 30 mins before KO: Tottenham announced two signings today, in the shape of Dutch defender Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg and Alejo Véliz, a teenage striker from Argentinian club Rosario Central.

Neither are expected to play today, which will probably be a bit frustrating for Postecoglou given this is Spurs' final preseason friendly before their Premier League opener versus Brentford on Sunday afternoon. Many of the starting XI for that clash with the Bees will be already penned in by Postecoglou, so might get rests tonight given the league fixture is so close.
