Atlanta United has announced the signing of free agent midfielder Jacob Peterson to a multi-year contract.
Peterson, 30, scored a career-best six goals in 2016 with Sporting Kansas City.

“We set clear goals during this offseason to add league experience in key areas,” Atlanta United president Darren Eales said in a club release. “Jacob is another player who’s enjoyed a long and productive career in MLS and we’re pleased that he’s decided to sign with our club.”
Peterson has spent 11 seasons in MLS since being drafted by the Colorado Rapids in 2006. He has made 246 career appearances and 147 starts while playing for Colorado, Toronto FC, San Jose and Sporting KC, with whom he spent the past five seasons.
