Algeria have parted company with coach Rabah Madjer following the senior national team’s disappointing run.
The country’s Football Federation took the undisputed decision on Sunday after reviewing the football icon’s performance since replacing Lucas Alcaraz for a fourth spell.
Algeria lost to Cape Verde (3-2) and Portugal (3-0) in their last two games and the FAF did not want to wait for the start of the2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers before making the crucial resolution.
“Madjer is a former great, a great school of Algerian football, but concerning the post of the head coach, he hasn’t succeeded,” Algeria's Minister of Youth and Sports, Mohamed Hattab to media as reported by Le360.
He added, “It’s necessary to take the lessons from this because the national team must give joy and happiness.”
Vahid Halilhodzic – the tactician who led the country to 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil has been touted to return, while Morocco’s Herve Renard has also been linked with the vacant job.
The 1990 Africa Cup of Nations winners failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia – losing the ticket to Nigeria during the qualifying series.
They travel to Gambia for their next Afcon qualifying clash on September 7, 2018 as they bid to make the tournament billed for Cameroon.
