Young Australian midfielder Aiden O'Neill has made a deadline day loan move from Burnley to Oldham Athletic in League One.

The 18-year-old has made the move on loan for the remainder of the 2016-17 season as he looks to earn more game time.

O'Neill has made five appearances for Burnley's first team this season, including his Premier League debut in a 2-0 win over Liverpool in August.

"He is a good young footballer and good on the ball," Oldham manager John Sheridan told the third-tier club's official website.

"Aiden is someone different to what we already have.

“Hopefully he will get hold of the ball and keep possession of it and it's a good opportunity for him to come out and play regular first team football.

"He is definitely good enough but hopefully he will come here, enjoy his time with us and help us to stay in the league."

O'Neill could make his debut for Oldham, who sit in the relegation zone, for their trip to Chesterfield on Saturday.
