Sergio Aguero has revealed that his Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola told him he wanted to coach the Argentina national team.
Aguero is working with the ex-Barcelona boss for the first time this season at the Etihad Stadium following the departure of Manuel Pellegrini.
But the striker has revealed he could have linked up Guardiola sooner if he had heard back about another job.
"He is an amazing guy," Aguero told TyC Sports. "There is a reason he did as well as he did in Bayern and won everything. He is a winner.
"Do you remember there was talk about the national team a while ago? [Guardiola] told me: 'You guys didn't call me. I would love to coach you.'"
Aguero and Argentina take on Paraguay on Tuesday in their latest World Cup qualifier.
